Sparta Community Hospital welcomes Dr. Robert Bell to the hospital Surgery Department and to the Specialty Clinic at North Campus Healthcare located at 1300 N. Market Street in Sparta.
Dr. Bell, with Deaconess Illinois, will be performing outpatient orthopedic procedures on Wednesdays at Sparta Community Hospital, in addition to clinical beginning January 3.
Dr. Bell grew up in south central Missouri, which he recounts as being very similar to southern Illinois. “I like the people in small towns,” shares Bell. “they are good, no nonsense, compliant patients.”
An accomplished surgeon, researcher and professor, Dr. Bell has published several research articles, presented at numerous conferences, and has held positions at academic centers. Dr. Bell is a is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a member of the American Association for Hand Surgery, Texas Orthopaedic Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Missouri Shoulder-Elbow Society.
After receiving his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Dr. Bell completed a general surgery internship at the Medical College of Virginia and residency at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Dr. Bell completed a combined University of Virginia and American Sports Medicine Institute fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery.
Dr. Bell is an instrument flight rules single and twin rated pilot with over 1000+ hours at the helm. An avid sportsman, Dr. Bell understands the importance of having hands and upper body working and free of pain. In his free time, he enjoys spending time outdoors trout fishing, camping, hiking, and sailing.
