This experience has given Carol one of the sharpest eyes at spotting errors in the medical record ensuring accuracy. Carol codes clinic charts and wound clinic and does a fantastic job. We’re thrilled to have Carol’s skills on our coding team and look forward to many more years together at SCH!

– Francie Baker

Congratulations to Scott Smith on his 5-year work anniversary. An outstanding nurse in the Emergency Department, Scott’s compassion has earned him glowing patient reviews. We know Scott is getting these fantastic reviews because patients take the time to actually list his name in the survey, or just say ‘he’, and since he’s the only male nurse in the ED, it’s pretty simple to narrow down who they’re referring too. He is extremely dependable and great to work with. He also takes full advantage of the PTO he has earned, so he has a great work/life balance. His dedication to his coworkers and willingness to help out in a pinch make him a cherished part of our team. We appreciate Scott for his continued commitment to his co-workers, patients and Sparta Community Hospital.

Jamie has been employed at SCH since 2014, and her career has been one of growth and dedication. From Medical Assistant to Clinic Supervisor, then changing directions and earning a Registered Health Information Technician degree, Jamie joined the coding team in 2021. She currently codes clinic charts. Her unique ability to speak both “coding” and “clinic” allows her to help enhance clinical documentation while supporting our providers. We are very lucky to have Jamie on our coding team, and it is my hope we have her my years to come!

Congratulations to Susan Brown on her 10 year work anniversary at SCH! She began her career as an LPN, then proudly served for four years as a surgical tech in the Army. Afterward, she became a Registered Nurse, dedicating nearly 18 years to patient care. Susan’s 10 years with SCH have shown what great expertise she has in all aspects of surgery. Recently promoted to Surgery Department Manager, Susan still makes time to pick up extra shifts when she can to help Med Surg or ED and work as the house float. We truly appreciate her skill level, and overall willingness to jump in as needed I look forward to working with Susan for many more years to come!

Lauriel has been a big part of not just the Materials Management department, but the organization as a whole during her tenure.  Every time you go to grab a supply, whether it is a piece of paper, or a defibrillator pad, Lauriel had something to do with getting it to you.  It is a very common sight to see her pushing her carts around the hospital delivering both stock and non-stock supplies that were ordered by departments, or PAR leveling the various locations in the building.  She keeps the storeroom stocked, keeps an eye on expiration dates, and reports slow moving items to help maintain an adequate inventory turn rate.  She knows everyone and is friendly.  Outside of her work , she she is a doting grandmother.  We are blessed to have you here, and thank you for your service, Lauriel.

Keri began her journey with Sparta Hospital in 2014 on the Med Surg unit before transitioning to the Emergency Department, where she’s become an invaluable team member. Known for her exceptional nursing skills and fierce patient advocacy, Keri often steps up to take extra shifts or help out as a Float. A coworker shared, “Keri is compassionate and treats every patient like family. There’s nothing she won’t do to help out.” A 2022 Nursing Shining Star award winner, Keri embodies Sparta Community Hospital’s Standards of Behavior. We are blessed to have worked alongside her for 10 years, and look forward to many more. We appreciate Keri for her continued commitment and care that she provides.

Alisha’s journey with SCH began in 2013 as a Medical Assistant extern, where she quickly discovered her passion for front office work. Officially joining the clinic clerical team in 2014,we found she was bright, learned quickly, and thrived in a fast-paced office setting. She was also flexible about moving between clinics, which was always appreciated. In 2015, she returned to school for Administrative Assistance in Medical Office Settings while working part-time at Convenient Care and supporting Clinic Management. In 2017, she said YES to a role as Department Assistant in Administration and HR, AND to the love of her life, Kevin. By 2023, Alisha took on the role of Executive Assistant while continuing her HR duties—all while juggling countless random questions thrown her way almost hourly, her two beautiful children and Kevin. The key to her success is her incredible organizational talent. We’re so lucky to have her on our team and truly appreciate all she does!

– Joann Emge

Cortney’s journey with SCH began back in 2008, when she worked at the hospital while earning her RN license. During that time, she worked in customer service/registration and had quite the memorable moment when her water broke during a shift—ask her for the full story! In 2015, Cortney joined CMC as Dr. James’s triage nurse, and history almost repeated itself. As we were leaving the building at the end of the day, her water broke again—but once again, she made it to the hospital and delivered a healthy baby. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Cortney from her start at CMC, and as I transitioned into clinic management, she transitioned into the Site Supervisor role in 2022. Cortney brings a wealth of knowledge, is an incredible team leader, and is always willing to step in and help when needed. Thank you, Cortney, for your years of hard work, dedication, and service—you are truly appreciated!

She’s constantly brainstorming ways to improve processes and boost productivity in the DI department, making her a key player in the success of our organization. First as a LPN, then a RN, Lisa has worked in a variety of roles including Med Surg, Director of Skilled Care, OB, House Supervisor, and the ER. Lisa has actually been with SCH for 23 years, however at some point during that time, she dropped to PRN status for a bit. Even when she was PRN she remained a loyal and dedicated member of our team. Currently, she’s working full-time in the Med Surg department, where she continues to collaborate well with both her coworkers and providers. I look forward to working with Lisa for many more years to come.

With her experience and sharp eye for detail, she ensures that patients get the best possible experience and goes above and beyond to find and correct any errors in accounts. Let’s take a moment to celebrate an extraordinary 25-year work anniversary milestone! Your unwavering loyalty and incredible contributions have made a lasting impact on countless lives. We’re truly grateful for your dedication and the positivity you bring to our team. Thank you for being such an inspiration!

Dr. Beckemeyer joined Sparta Community Hospital after a brief stint in Murphysboro, and we’re so glad she’s made this her home! She’s dedicated to not only her patients, but the overall care provided by the entire hospital district. Her compassion and commitment extends beyond not only caring for her patients and humans, but for caring for animals. Doc always seems to find a home for animals without place to go. While Dr. Beckemeyer’s true passion lies in Primary Care, she also plays a vital role beyond the office, overseeing Convenient Care and our Mobile Unit. Over the years, she’s enjoyed watching her sons grow into young men. We’re grateful for Dr. Beckemeyer’s many years of service and look forward to many more to come! Thank you for all you do!

– Peter Hertzing

Let’s celebrate an extraordinary 30-year work anniversary! Your dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment have been an inspiration to everyone. You’ve played a vital role in our hospital’s journey and success, and we’re deeply grateful for your incredible service. Thank you for everything you’ve done!

Dan first joined our organization in 1984 as a Lab Technician and, after a few years away to continue his education, came back in 1994, quickly rising through the ranks. He’s been with SCHD ever since, including roles as Safety Director, Lab Manager, and Director of Ancillary Services, overseeing both the lab and radiology. If you know Dan, you know he’s a spreadsheet expert and data wizard! In 2008, he became a Six Sigma Black Belt and has been driving improvements across our organization ever since. In 2012, he took on Rehab Services as well, always embracing new challenges. Dan’s dedication to improving our services, his incredible leadership, and his role as a father to four wonderful kids have made him a huge asset to SCHD. As he heads into retirement at the end of March, we’re excited for him to dive into a new passion – building banjos! We’ll miss him, but we wish him nothing but happiness and good health in this next chapter of life. And as the saying goes, Laura, get ready for “twice as much husband for half as much money!”

– Joann Emge

Cheryl started her RN career on May 28, 1979, and quickly moved up to Night Shift Supervisor and later OB Supervisor in 1986. By 1995, she became Director of Nursing Services and, in 1997, took on the challenge of opening our Home Health Service. In 1998, Cheryl became the Administrator of At-Home Health Care, and under her leadership, the service line earned numerous awards for quality and patient satisfaction. Over the years, no matter the position, Cheryl has devoted 110% to deliver high quality services to our patients. Her ability to go above and beyond is truly remarkable. Cheryl’s dedication and exceptional leadership have shaped the success of Home Health and set a high standard for her team.
